JAMES WARE PHILP, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Baltzell) Philp was born 10 Oct 1833 in Bracken Co., Kentucky.   He came to Jefferson County with his parents, when six years old in 1839.  He was married to AUGUSTA JANE KINNE of Posey County, Indiana, April 6, 1856.  She was the daughter of George Nathan and Nancy Mary (Skinner) Kinne.  Augusta's name appears as Nancy on her marriage license to James.  This is because her mother died when she was two years old and her dad called her Nancy because she reminded him of her mother.
James built a white frame two-story house on the northwest side of Waltonville.  He and Augusta lived there the rest of their lives.  The property has stayed in the possession of the heirs of Ida Etta Philp Newell and the house stood on the property until the past few years when it was torn down and replaced.
See Prairie Historian article on the Philp family for more information on James Ware Philp and his service in the Civil War.
