OBITUARY OF MARY ELIZA (PHILP) LAUR
Grandma Laur Has Passed to Her Reward
Elizabeth Philp was born December, 1825 at Gallopolis , O., and at the age of 15, she came with her parents to Jefferson county, Illinois, and settled near what is now Waltonville. She was the oldest child the Philp family of three boys and six girls. February 29, 1844, she and Captain Joseph Laur were married, and to them were born three boys and four girls, all of whom are still living, except Charles, the oldest who died on April 14, 1913. Her husband, Joseph Laur, died June 18, 1895. She leaves three sisters, six children, thirty-seven grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Fifty-five years ago Grandma Laur united with the Christian church and remained a faithful member until called home. For the past two years she has been confined to her bed and was a great sufferer from ailments incident to old age, but she has borne her burdens like the faithful Christian that she was. None knew her but to love her. But her sufferings are now o'er And she's safe on that beautiful shore, While her sleeping dust reposes in the family burying ground near Waltonville. In this connection we cannot refrain from differing with those (and they are many) who lament the sudden and painless taking off of aged Christians. Grandma had suffered long, but patiently, waiting for the call to her heavenly home. No doubt she would have gone willingly at any time, but for reasons best known to our Heavenly Father, shewas left with her children to the ripe old age of 87 years and she did not murmur or complain--knowing that "He that doeth all things well" could not err.
